Following the introduction of the F18 last year, GEA Bock is expanding the open type compressors by the compressor units in line with tradition.

Alongside the familiar FDK types, a version with coupling case, to be marketed under the SFD designation, will now also be available for the first time.

FDK Compressor units

Compressor with flexible shaft coupling for direct drive mounted on a profile base frame. The power transmission from motor to compressor occurs via an elastic flexible shaft coupling. ICE standard motors of type IM B3 are used as drive motors (option).

SFD Compressor units

GEA Bock offers greater efficiency semi-hermetic compressor series

GEA Bock has upgraded its range of semi-hermetic compressors and from 2014 will offer new, efficiency-optimized solutions for applications in refrigeration and climate control.

Experience from decades of design and construction of semi-hermetic compressors has gone into development of the new “e-series” (e = efficiency).

The new HG44e (4- cylinder) and HG88e (8-cylinder) models are already available. Beginning in fall of this year, in addition, the HG56e and HG76e models will also be on the market.

The HG76e and HG88e compressors are equipped with the newly developed GEA Bock mexxFlow valve-plate technology, which enables greater refrigeration duty while operating with less power consumption. The flow-optimized double ring fin construction  of the mexxFlow valve plate – in combination with a cylinder head especially adapted to the valve plate – have increased the efficiency of the HG76e and HG88e compressors by approx. 15 %.

GEA Refrigeration Technologies has based these four new semi-hermetic compressor series on the proven principles of GEA Bock compressors. These fundamentals include assurance of effective lubrication by an oil pump, application of exchangeable electrical motors, as well as manufacture of very solid and rugged compressors.

These new GEA Bock compressor series offer a great number of benefits over their predecessor models.

  • The HG44e series :

The new GEA Bock HG44e compressors replace the HG4 series and are characterized by increased efficiency, greater displacement, more compact design, and a new configuration of connections. These connections conform with currently provided gas fittings, which enables replacement investment without adaptation.

The foot mounts of the new 4-cylinder compressors also conform to sector standards. The HG44e models with four model sizes cover the range of maximum displacements from 41.3 to 67.0 m³/h. This allows optimal coverage of individual performance requirements.

The GEA Bock HG44e series, in comparison to its predecessors, now offers four instead of three model sizes. In addition, the largest version, the HG44e/770-4 compressor, offers with its 67 m³/h almost 20 % more displacement than the largest HG4 model. As a result, this series of models offers the most extensive performance coverage of any brand in the sector.

  • The HG88e series :

For several months now, GEA Bock HG88e compressors have already been on the market. The largest GEA Bock 8-cylinder for commercial refrigeration presently on the market is available in two model sizes: from 237.9 to 281.3 m³/h. This model series is impressive owing to an efficient stroke-bore ratio, optimized gas flow, highly efficient motors, as well as the same dimensions and connections as for its predecessors in the HG8 series.

In addition, efficiency enhancement of up to 15 % is possible in combination with mexxFlow valve-plate technology.

  • The HG56e series:

Beginning in fall of this year, a total of three 6-cylinder models in the HG56e series will replace the previous GEA Bock HG5 series. These new compressors will be available with displacements of 73.8 to 100.4 m³/h. Throughout the portfolio, 6-cylinder compressors will then be offered instead of the previous HG5 4-cylinder models.

Compared to the 4-cylinder compressor models typically available on the market, the increase in number of cylinders leads to enhanced efficiency and to optimized noise-emission levels. The largest compressor, with 100.4 m³/h displacement, exceeds that of its predecessor by approx. one-fifth – and offers as a result an especially great price-performance ratio.

  • The HG76e series:

Also from fall of 2014, the new GEA Bock HG76e series of models will arrive on the market to upgrade their predecessor models from the HG7 series. The new 6-cylinder compressors are characterized by more efficient design of the gas ducts as well as optimized electric motors from the latest generation.

In combination with mexxFlow valve-plate technology, total efficiency enhancement of up to 15 % is possible.

With its GEA Bock HG44e compressor range, GEA Technologies introduces new, more efficient semi-hermetic compressors to the market – models that replace its HG4 range. Experience from more than 20 years of production of semi-hermetic compressors has gone into this development.

In addition to their uses in the field of refrigeration and air-conditioning, the new 4-cylinder compressors are ideally suited for refrigeration in supermarkets. They offer improved efficiency over their predecessors, greater displacement, more compact structural design, and a new configuration of connections.

These connections match the gas connections normally found in the sector, to ensure that no adaptation work is necessary when the user invests in a replacement compressor. The foot mountings of the new compressor likewise conform to sector standards.

In the 4-cylinder HG44e range, four model sizes cover the area of maximum displacement from 41.3 m³/h to 67.0 m³/h. These output ranges enable optimal meeting of performance requirements. These new compressors are available from April of 2014.

The new range profits from a new and advanced valve plate system, electrical motors from the latest generation, and enhanced gas flow – which increase efficiency and lower energy consumption. In comparison to its predecessors, the GEA Bock HG44e range includes four instead of three model sizes.

In addition, the largest version, the HG44e/770-4 compressor, offers with its 67 m³/h, almost 20 % more displacement than the largest HG4 model. As a result, this compressor range demonstrates the greatest power density in the sector.

The GEA Bock oil-pump design, proven over many years, further assures reliable lubrication of all moving parts. The new models furthermore demonstrate excellent service friendliness – for example, simple exchange of the drive motor, as before.

With its new GEA Bock HG44e compressors, GEA Technologies sets new standards in efficiency and performance.

New generation of the biggest GEA Bock compressors with more refrigerating capacity, less drive power – in addition to a displacement of up to 280 m³/h – the new Bock compressor models HG7e and HG88e offer maximum efficiency and easy handling for chillers and performance-intensive refrigeration applications.

GEA Introduces Biggest Semi-hermetic CO2 Compressor

The new HG46 CO2 T

The new semi-hermetic 6-cylinder piston compressor GEA Bock HG46 CO2 T is now available.   With a displacement of 21,8 to 30,2 m³/h, it is the biggest semi-hermetic compressor for transcritical CO2 applications with operating pressures of up to 130 bar currently available on the market.   At normal cooling – gas cooler outlet conditions +35°C (90bar), evaporation temperature -10°C, superheat 10 K – it has an outstanding COP (coefficient of performance) of more than 1,85.

The GEA Bock HG46 CO2 T is characterized by its robust engineering design that enables maximum standstill pressures of 150 bar on the high pressure side and 100 bar on the low pressure side.   The compressor is based on the already established HG34 CO2 T and is used in numerous industrial heat pumps as well as classical refrigeration applications such as supermarkets.   With semi-hermetic GEA Bock compressors for the sustainable refrigerant CO2, GEA Refrigeration Technologies offers a broad portfolio for subcritical and transcritical CO2 applications and more than 20 years of experience in this technology.

GEA increases energy efficiency of compressors by around 15 %

More refrigerating capacity and lower power consumption – this is the motto of the new mexxFlow® valve plate system, which will form the heart of all new GEA Bock compressor generations in future.   Concerning the increase in energy efficiency of semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors, one focus of compressor manufacturers has always been on the valve plate system. It is necessary to release the energy, which is applied by an electric motor, efficiently to the refrigerating circuit while realizing minimal energy losses.

GEA Refrigeration Technologies has also put its focus of continuous development of reciprocating compressors on the valve plate system – the mexxFlow® system now reflects the result of this development work.   GEA was successful in increasing the efficiency of its compressors by around 15 % thanks to a flow-optimized double ring fin construction of the valve plate in combination with a cylinder head, which is specially adapted to the valve plate. Thus, open as well as semi-hermetic GEA Bock compressors achieve new records in terms of efficiency.

Starting from October, the compressor Bock F18, an open-type reciprocating compressor with 8-cylinders and a displacement of up to 280 m³/h, will be the first compressor which is equipped with the mexxFlow® valve plate system. The semi-hermetic 8-cylinder model HG88e and the 6-cylinder compressor HG7e will follow at the end of the year.

Open type piston compressors in new dimension

In industrial as well as maritime applications, system operators often use open type piston compressors with an external drive when a high degree of reliability, flexibility and operational safety is required. Especially for these application fields, GEA Technologies now presents the new GEA Bock compressor models F18 of the established GEA Bock F-series.With F18 compressor GEA now closes the gap between the GEA product lines GEA Bock and GEA Grasso.

The construction of the new 8-cylinder compressor models GEA combines the know-how in the small and medium output range with know-how in the higher output range. To meet the high quality demands of open-type compressors in this capacity range, GEA focuses on uncompromising quality. A plasma-nitrocarburized crankshaft for example drives the eight pistons of the compressor.   At the same time, the F18 compressor sets new benchmark standards for open-type piston compressors.For the first time, the GEA Bock mexxFlow valve system is used in this compressor.

The mexxFlow system is a flow-optimized double-ring design of the valve plate in combination with a cylinder head especially designed for the valve plate. Due to the use of this valve system, GEA is able to increase the efficiency of the compressor by 15%, compared to the use of standard valve plate technology. With these results, the F18 reaches a new level of efficiency for compressors of this type.When it comes to size and weight of the compressor, the F18 is also significantly smaller than competitors in this capacity range. A fact that makes the compressor much easier to handle, for instance for transportation or when taking it into a machine room.   The F18 compressor is available for standard refrigerants with the start of the Chillventa. A special version for the established refrigerant for industrial systems NH3 (Ammonia) will follow in 2013.

With the Plusbox, GEA Technologies presents for the first a series of modular designed outdoor condensing units on the basis of semi-hermetic GEA Bock compressors and GEA condensers.

The modular model kit of the new GEA Plusbox condensing units enables the system manufacturer to configure the Plusbox individually according to his demands. This way, he can decide on the scope of supply and has for example the choice which control system suits best for his application. At the same time, the extensive configuration program by GEA Refrigeration Technologies offers the possibility to equip the Plusbox with numerous accessories.

Whether it’s the basic design, the Plug & Play version or the individual version – with the GEA Plusbox, GEA Refrigeration Technologies offers top components with a fair price/performance ratio that facilitate work on the system for the system manufacturer due to the pre-assembly and delivery of the complete Plusbox unit.

The GEA Plusbox is only manufactured semi-hermetic GEA Bock compressors. Due to their universal refrigerant suitability they can be used flexibly and excel in their high reliability and sustainability. Classical areas of application for the Plusbox are:

Initially, GEA Refrigeration Technologies offers the Plusbox with GEA Bock compressors HG34e, which corresponds to refrigerating capacities of approx. 9 to 15 kW at normal cooling conditions (R404a at -10°C evaporation temperature and 32°C ambient temperature).

The extension of the GEA Plusbox model range in larger and smaller capacity ranges is planned in the course of the year 2013.
